- Find the transition you like above and click it. Its name is copied.
- In Premiere Pro open Window › Effects and paste the name in the search box.
- Drag the transition onto the cut between two clips.
Nothing to download: every transition here is built into Premiere Pro. Also see the After Effects presets gallery.
How do I add a transition in Premiere Pro?
Open the Effects panel (Window › Effects), type the transition name in its search box, and drag the transition onto the cut between two clips in the timeline.
How do I change how long a transition lasts?
Drag the edge of the transition in the timeline, or double-click it and type a new duration. The default length is set in Preferences › Timeline.
Why does Premiere Pro say Insufficient media when I add a transition?
A transition needs extra frames beyond the cut (handles). If a clip is used right up to its first or last frame, trim it a little so there are spare frames, then add the transition again.
What is the shortcut for the default transition?
Ctrl + D (Cmd + D on Mac) adds the default video transition, Cross Dissolve, to the selected cut. Right-click any transition in the Effects panel to set it as the default.
Are these transitions free?
Yes. All 144 are built into Premiere Pro 2026. Older versions have fewer of them.
