How do I add a shape preset in After Effects?
Click an empty area of the timeline so no layer is selected, then double-click the preset in Effects & Presets (Animation Presets › Shapes). After Effects makes a new shape layer with the preset on it.
Can I edit the colour and size of these shapes?
Yes. Open the shape layer's Contents in the timeline. Fill, stroke, size and the other settings are normal shape-layer properties.
What is the difference between Elements and Sprites?
Elements are finished pieces such as charts, map markers and frames. Sprites are small graphic marks (stars, gears, crosshairs); the Animated ones move, the Still ones do not.
