How to use these transition presets
- Find the preset you like above and click it. Its name is copied.
- In After Effects open Window › Effects & Presets and paste the name in the search box.
- Select your layer, put the playhead where the animation should start, and double-click the preset.

How do I add a transition preset in After Effects?
Put the incoming clip on a layer above the outgoing clip. Select the top layer, move the playhead to the start of the transition, then double-click the preset in Effects & Presets (Animation Presets › Transitions). The layer below shows through while it animates.
Are After Effects transition presets free?
Yes. These 51 transitions are installed with After Effects. You do not need to buy or download anything.
How do I change how long a transition lasts?
Press U on the layer to show the keyframes the preset added, then drag the last keyframe closer to or further from the first one.
How do I reverse a transition so it works as an out transition?
Select the keyframes the preset added, right-click and choose Keyframe Assistant › Time-Reverse Keyframes, then move them to the end of the layer.
